The George Foundation

Within the next two decades the increasing toll from non-communicable diseases such as heart attack, stroke, injury and depression is destined to hit hardest in low and middle-income countries, where health systems are not yet robust enough to deal with such serious, escalating epidemics.

The real question is - how can we make a difference now, before it is too late?

The George Foundation was established in 2004 to secure funds for The George Institute's research programs in preventive health, healthcare delivery and health policy development, in order to improve health outcomes for populations of the Asia-Pacific region. A secondary focus is to develop partnerships that will provide sponsorship to support the educational aspects of the Institute's work and build a fund to facilitate a range of Fellowships, Scholarships and Internships.

By working with The George Institute for International Health to deliver these programs, we have the ability to effect change and improve health for many of the hundreds of millions of people living in the Asia-Pacific's low and middle-income countries.

Working closely together, the Institute and the Foundation are implementing a range of projects addressing the growing burden in chronic disease and preventable injuries in low and middle-income countries of the Asia-Pacific.

Each project is seed-funded by The George Institute or The George Foundation, either alone or in partnership with other agencies. All are new or ongoing projects and require complementary funding to ensure their completion.

Endorsements from our Partners

"The China-Australia Partnership for Health represents an important initiative launched by The George Institute for International Health (University of Sydney) and the Peking University Health Science Centre. Their new joint 'Centre for Evidence Based Medicine' will enable the China-Australia Partnership to tackle some of the most pressing health burdens facing the people of China today.
