Chinese delegation visit to The George

With an interest in diabetes and cardiovascular disease, senior representatives of 12 different hospitals in Chengdu, China visited The George Institute in Sydney this week

Charged with soaking up information from a number of hospitals, universities and health institutes in Australia, the group was keen to identify ways to improve the efficiency of their health service, research and hospital training systems.

Director of Neurological and Mental Health at The George Institute, Professor Craig Anderson welcomed the delegates and led a discussion on health system reforms, training in clinical trial management and diabetes control in the community

In particular, the hospitals and government of Chengdu in West China expressed an interest in managing diabetes and cardiovascular disease, and have made it a priority to develop effective programs to combat these conditions. Chengdu is located in the Sichuan province in south western China and has a population of over 11 million people. It is also well known as the home of the Chinese Panda

The George Institute works in partnership with over 300 collaborators across the world and has developed extensive local research programs and training for local practitioners.

The delegation included 12 Presidents of Hospitals from Chengdu in southwest China
