The Neurological & Mental Health Division aims to reduce the worldwide burden of neurological and mental health disorders, with a particular focus on stroke, sleep apnea and epilepsy.
Evaluating current knowledge and strategies, conducting major research studies, and developing new strategies to influence how medicine is practised in this field are all major parts of this aim.

- Psychosocial Outcomes In StrokE - POISE
Aims to determine if modifiable early psychosocial factors are associated with return to work at one year in younger stroke survivors - Sydney Epilepsy Incidence Study to Measure Illness Consequences - SEISMIC
Aims to determine the incidence of epilepsy in Australia and examine how psychosocial factors, socioeconomic circumstances, and healthcare delivery influence the experience of epilepsy for individuals and families.

- Familial Intracranial Aneurysm - FIA
Aims to identify the gene, or genes associated with the formation and rupture of intracranial aneurysm in families with multiple affected family members. - Intensive Blood Pressure Reduction in Acute Cerebral Haemorrhage Trial 2 - INTERACT 2
Aims to determine if early intensive blood pressure-lowering therapy can reduce death and disability from intracerebral haemorrhage. - Quality Evaluation of Stroke Care and Treatment - ChinaQUEST
Aims to assess stroke management, secondary prevention and outcomes in urban, suburban and rural China. - several acute stroke trials (CT/MRI perfusion, FAST, SAINT II, PERFORM);
- Sleep Apnea CardioVascular Endpoints Study - SAVE
To evaluate if continuous positive airways pressure (CPAP) reduces cardiovascular illness and death for people with both obstructive sleep apnea and cardiovascular disease. - Socioeconomic Determinants of Stroke - SEDS
Aims to determine the associations with, and relative contributions of, socioeconomic factors on stroke and stroke outcomes, and to explore potential pathways between social disadvantage and biology and behaviour to develop strategies to reduce stroke risk and improve outcomes.
